I found a nice chrome rear bumper off of an '05 and it has the sensors where my '01 does not. They would be nice to have and was just curious if I could make them work?
Where there's a will (and the money) there's always a way. As for just an add-on I'm going to say no, it's more complicated than that.
I've attached the parking aid wiring diagram for your 2001 and the 2005. There's a lot to it if you don't have the system installed already. You also have to factor in that there was an electrical change between '01 and '02 so my '03 has many of the same features but wired differently and with different connectors. I don't know how big the change was when they revamped the truck for '05 but IMO it looks more trouble (and cost) than it's worth. You would probably be better served getting an aftermarket backup camera setup and installing that as that looks like an easier and less expensive option. Just my .02
I didn't figure it would be easy. Just thought maybe somebody had found a way to do it. But I agree, sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Thank you for the information.
Plus the sensors crap out easily. I have a 2006 and 2011, both with the sensors. They failed multiple times and were fuxed on both trucks while under warranty. When they died after the warranty was up, I didn't bother to fix them. The 2011 has a factory camera - much better than the sensors, and has never failed.
My vote would be to add a camera instead too. They making hooking up a trailer a breeze.
