Well I'm pretty sure that I'm in need of new brakes. I'm started feeling a lot of "pulsing" while stopping. Last week I requested a quote from "ART" but haven't heard anything yet. Anyone have any ideas or recommendations?
I just installed a set of Frozenrotors and *911* semi-metallic pads due to warped stockers. I probably had 20k miles or so left on the warped set but ditched them due to the pulsing and lousy braking performance.
The Frozenrotors I got are slotted and the first road tests tell me I did the right thing. They are not broken in yet but I already can tell the braking performance has increased and they are smooth as silk!
No cheap, but nice. I will not drive on warped brakes.
On returning my Taurus to the shop a few years back with yet another case of warped rotors, my mechanic candidly told me that Ford, as well as a lot of other manufacturers have a lot of history of building rotor thinner/lighter than yeras ago.
I can believe it. Every Ford I've owned has gone through rotors like cops through donuts.
But an interesting thing happenned to my X. At about 20,000 kms that telltale pulsing started. Having just dropped big coin on the beast, I was reluctant to shell out anything more so soon as rotors are not covered by the warranty.
I took it easy, engine breaking, anticipating traffic slowdowns, jumping out at corner, dragging my feet (just kidding ) and over the course of the next 15,000 the warping subsided and has not come back, despite some heavy braking since.
At 65,000 kms, the pads are still over 50% and there is a hint of pulsing only with extreme braking.
