Have had this problem on both my 2016, and 2017 F-150 with the OEM voice activated navigation system, checking if anyone else runs into the same.
Both trucks when delivered had 3 range options on the navigation function,0.25,0.75 and 5.0 miles. At various times I have had the system change to only 2 range options,0.25 and 5.0 miles. When pulling a trailer the 0.25 range is great for the last ten miles, but really has no value, (to much detail) for the majority of a trip. The 5.0 mile range is without a lot of detail, and I find it useful when checking hi-lited road delays on the x-ways.
What I find most useful is the 0.75, as it gives enough detail for local needs, but not the clutter of the 0.25.
My question is why this 0.75 range option is the one that keeps dropping off system selection availability, and then maybe a month or so later it is back on again?
Last month I started a 300 mile tow, and when stopping for fuel about 2/3s of the way there, it dropped off the selections group, and I was only allowed the short and long ranges.
The +/- controls are where there may be 3 or 2 range options, and that screen is where the 0.75 option disappears from, and might return to.
Thanks for the thought.
I'll have to watch mine and see if this happens.
Have you looked at different speeds, such as 30mph and 70mph? I wonder if it may change the options based on how fast you are going. I'm trying to think of a logical reason it may change. Though, what you wrote, makes it sound like it's completely gone at any speed.
Have you noticed it in the exact same locations? they may have eliminated that detail level in some areas where there isn't anything of interest to save storage space. Ill keep an eye on mine and see if i notice anything odd with it.
All the thoughts presented are good questions, my understanding of "automatic" is that it works when routing to a destination, I use the nav screen daily to provide visual info of surrounding streets and traffic info.
Speed is not relative to the range options, or has not been in the past.
Data space, I'm in the Detroit metro area and have lost the 0.75 range option in both city and out country driving, and have had this range option "return" on occasion.
Further quandary, in my driveway I now have only 2 range options, 0.25 & 5.0 miles. But my wife's 2017 Flex with same OEM nav system has the 3 ranges, and another 2017 Flex she has for short term driver also has the 3 ranges. All these are Sync 3 equipped.
Not being a techie, I found the 0.75 range gave street and traffic info about a 3 mile radius which is in my thought is a driving benefit.
