Vin decoding

Thanks for the update. Great information ! I wonder whether the 1st digit on the merc is a misstamp should be a 5 for mercury 6. The bucket seats look factory stock. The hump between the seats is raised quite a bit for the tall diesel so couldn't use a bench seat. Looking from under the cab the
hump looks stock too with insulation forming around it. The engine appears to be the stock 330 cid Ford Dagenham diesel. And then there are the Mercury diesel door emblems.......

Oh I'm sure the Diesel is a factory install i would not worry about that. It is listed as being offered so I would not worry about that.

Hello! I came across this Forum doing some research on a truck we found on a local farm. I know it's a mid-70's F-700, but was hoping someone could decode this VIN and tell us what exactly we have here. Any help would be really appreciated.

Please ask further questions in the LARGE TRUCK forum, most members of this forum (1957/60) have pickups, plus your truck is a 1976.

F70 = F700 (gas).

E = 361 2V or 4V FT engine.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

B10488 = 1976.

194" Wheelbase.

J3: J = Rangoon Red // 3 = Tan.

F703 = F700 (gas), 23,000 lbs. GVWR

4A8: 4A = Black Heavy Duty Vinyl - Full Width Seat / 8 = 81A Standard Cab.

M = Clark model 285V 5 Speed Direct

E2M:

E2 = Eaton model 16244 Two Speed Rear Axle / 6.17/8.58 / 17,500 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

M = Ford 7,000 lbs. Capacity Front Axle with Power Steering.

23,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

41 = Chicago IL Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

Hello All, I'm a newbie here on this forum, who was reading through and watching NumberDummie decode vin after vin like a machine...

My son and I recently picked up a 1965 F-100 which was transplanted onto what we were told was a 1988 Bronco Frame... We are in the beginning of a frame off restoration, and I went to order bushings/bodymounts/tierods/ball joints/etc... and wanted to double check that it was in fact an 88. I looked on the frame which we had sandblasted for the VIN. It was between two stars, and I am relatively sure it said...

P14BRQ3038 The Q may be a zero, or O, not positive...

Any chance anyone could help me out before we order all new components?

Thanks,
Matt

If this is a bum vin number, I think there may be one more vin on a front cross member that is covered in grease still that I could check out (haven't sandblasted up past the back half yet...)
