Ya, imagine that, rust on an '04 Ranger.
Anyway, I'm easing myself into a bed floor complete replacement, and while under it today, I noticed the fueltank rear support strap bracket was no longer there. I've searched until I've run out of ideas, and haven't found a replacement bracket.
Anyone have an idea where I could get a bracket? The OEM one is riveted to the frame, not that big of a deal to remove what's left, but I need one to replace it.
HELP!!!!
I have never seen the bracket anywhere as a replacement part. You might have to fabricate one yourself.
Ya, I may have to. As long as it doesn't look "too" redneck, some unistrut and allthread oughta work, both I have in the barn.
My dealer called me this morning and says he might have gotten what I need. They ordered it for me, and according to their catalog, it's called a gusset. We'll see.
Looks like the bed floor was the victim of moisture trapped under a bed liner. If you weld in a new floor make sure to mark all four side of the inside walls so the new floor bolt holes line up nicely with the box to frame torx bolts.
Thanks for the tip.
The bed rotted from underneath, there was never a liner in there, and always covered by a tonneau.
I did have a bed mat, but as much as I looked, there was never any water between it and the bed.
Picked up a box down in the Duhtroit area the other day, best out of 5 I looked at. Front 2 crossmembers need rebuilding, the rest is just surface rust. After pressure washing, I'm going to use Corroseal to convert the rust, topcoat with Rustoleum, then a thick coat of rubberized undercoating.
Never used Corroseal before, so that'll be different.
Also broke loose all my bedbolts but one, luckily it wasn't the one over the gas tank.
Some headway. Cutout the bad spots on the crossmembers, power brushed, power washed, and hung up to dry.
Moved it into the barn for rust converter.
Welder took a dump on me, so I'm going to temporarily bolt stuff together until I get a new welder. Getting too late in the year to be screwing around with lots of other things to get done.
Got the rebuilt bed almost ready to be swapped. Removing my original bed likely today, clean up the frame, and have POR on the way. Gotta get this finished up, winter ain't far away.
Maybe some photos later today.
