Welp, Saturday was interesting. Had to run my boy over to a friends a couple miles down the road so though I'd fire up the old Ford since it had been sitting for a month or so. Ran fine until we stopped at an intersection and poof! smoke pouring out from hood. Luckily, guy behind me had a fire extinguisher (I usually carry them) and I got it out before too much damage was done. Looked like rubber fuel line into carb sprung a leak somehow?
Anyhow- Question is - Bone stock 400 2- barrel. I mean bone stock & was in great shape. Coil (& whatever was mounted on it),Passenger spark plug wires, Dist. cap etc plus a bunch of misc wiring all need to be replaced. Go with same system or any benefits to upgrading? Eventually will be going to updated intake & 4-barrel carb with 0 degree timing set but this is a down the road project.
Glad your all okay. As you prolly know now,
old rubber fuel line and today's fuel don't mix.
I say this not for you as much as the next guy.
Folks please upgrade your fuel lines.
Yep, just bought it a couple months ago as a project and hadn't gotten there yet...............Lesson learned. And keep fire extinguishers handy. Sitting on the shop floor didn't do me any good..........
