hard to start......
I need help on how to reair or fix my 89 F250 morning start up problems.........my "wait to start" light will only stay on for about a second and it just wont start unless you just turn on and off about 60 times and it seems to flood itself.....white smoke comes out till it finally does start and you can smell raw fuel..........im sure its a simple fix, but this is my first ford diesel ................any ideas?
I'm having a similar issues, did you ever figure out what was going on? I'm wonder why you had to turn the key on and off over and over again like having to keep pulling fuel up there. I don't think that's what I got going on, but I am having a hard time getting it started and the white smoke is crazy.
The glow plug controllers are famous for screwing up. Bypass the controller and use a momentary button to the glow plug relay. 6 seconds on a cold engine at temps above freezing is good. If really cold up to 10 seconds. Say 6 seconds at 40 F and add a second for every 10 degrees colder.

first thing to do is check the glow plugs.
if they are not motorcraft plugs, they are most likely burned out. which is a symptom of the one second WTS light.
try plugging the block heater in for 2-3 hours. if the engine cracks rite off, the glow plugs are not working.
