ok i really need to know....

all of you with the newer diesels- either 7.3 liter turbo diesel, or the new 6.0 turbo diesel- what is your AVERAGE fuel mileage? lets say you have the diesel, auto, with 3.73's not towing anything

i get average 12- thats split up between city AND highway - very little idleing.

so i am in the market for a F350 instead of my current F250, but with a crew cab, diesel...

i average 2100 miles per month, at 12 miles to the gallon i pay about 300 bucks a month on gas.

a diesel that gets 18 MPG average would spend about 200 bucks a month on fuel. saving @ 100 a month on fuel alone...

so whats your average city+highway mileage?

My Stock set up 2002 F250 Powerstroke crew cab lariat 4x4 truck averages 18mpg mostly highway, with 20% urban. That is with 3.73 rears and easy driving.

My far from stock F450 Powerstroke crew cab 4x4 truck averages 15mpg urban and highway, with 16.5mpg highway alone. The difference between the trucks is the '96 has extreme performance mods, the '02 has none.

My 7.3 ,auto, 3.73 gears. I was averaging 17.5 cruising 75mph but I have slowed down abit here in the last few weeks. Been keeping my rpm's to just under 2000 which puts me to about 70 mph. Big difference. About 19.5 mpg. Now if I can keep my speed down cause I like the milage I've been getting. Last winter it dropped down to about 14 mpg. Winter fuel!! Diesel dropped down to $1.31 in this area as of 2 days ago, .20 cheaper than gas.

ok i really need to know....

How many months of saving $100 (MAYBE, 18mpg in city driving is pretty optimistic) would it take before you paid off the difference in price of buying a new truck?

10 years?

Do some real checking on the finances.

You also have to figure in the increased life of the Diesel engine, and maintnance. <-- sp?

Diesel type oil fuel is also cheaper in most areas. Some areas by as much as 30 cents per gallon.

The upgrade to a Diesel engine (6.0L) is currently $5600. However with a prospected new motor (still the 6.0) in the works I expect significant rebates soon to come. This is definetly the time to be a changin'.

ok i really need to know....

ok fuel economy isnt the total reason im buying the truck-

i found out that a 3/4 ton isnt enough of a truck anymore... my business keeps demanding that i pull heavier and heavier loads as jobs get bigger

the short box- is just that... SHORT so now im getting a 1-ton LONG BOX

the extended cab doesnt have enough room for all my extra clothes, tools, lunch, paperwork, rope, safety gear, climbing gear- so now im getting a 1-ton, LONG BOX -CREW CAB

and... i average 8-9 MPG on the city, 11-12 highway+city- 15-16 on a good day on the highway

so to save 25 bucks a week on fuel isnt the only reason im blowing an extra 12 grand on a truck- i have a few extra motives.

i bought the truck 2 months before i started my business... 2 months after i bought the truck i found out the company i worked for was being bought out- so i left- hence; making me a private businessman. i never knew in advance of buying the truck my life would see such a change

I currently have 5500 miles without any problems. I consistantly get 17-18mpg on the highway at 80-85 mph. Around town 14-15mpg...i'm paying 1.34/gallon for diesel....gas is 1.53/gallon for regular unleaded

I have just under 3000 miles on my F-350 averaging, unloaded, 15.5 to 16.2 mpg. That's short distances with many starts and stops. I've gotten up to 17.2 mpg on the highway, unloaded.

I really like to tow. Sometimes I'll find excuses to tow something just to tow whether I own it or not. I put it back when I'm done. That's okay right? I've only done it once or twice; max three times.

Okay....better go......

Peace

Hey jdadamsjr can you elaborate about the write off? What it takes for a vehicle to qualify and why? Sounds interesting. Thanks

It has to be for a business and you can only write off the payments you make in one year, so make the maximum payment possible.
