I am a Conservative Libertarian who votes Republican. How's that for a label
If the Republicans would push harder for a smaller government with less taxes, I would be with them all the way. I catch a lot of guff from some of my lib buddies about not voting my principals but I usually just respond with "Hope Nader runs again, I'll send him some money", they get the point and pipe down.
I think the founding principles should be restored, not abandoned. That a persons rights start at conception, not birth, no matter the skin tone, cultural background or mental capacity. I believe a adult should provide for themselves/family as best as possible, but if they are not mentally/physically capable then (and only then) the rest of us have the responsibility to pitch in. I think murder is the worst of societies crimes, and punishments for other crimes should taper down from there. It's ridiculous that the killer gets 8-10 while the pot head gets 10-15. I put my faith in God, and not organized religion. I'd better quit here, soups on.
Alan, that's the most beautiful thing I've read on politics in a great while. It's too bad that we have to compromise our persisting beleif in small government, just for popularity's sake, so we can actually get a hard-working right-winger in the White House. TK
Wiz: Nothing wrong with this thread, but I figure that so many people are gonna chime in here that it would make it very easy to see the results at the top of the page with a simple poll question.
Frankly, I tend to be one conservative S.O.B. Does that mean I'm a republican? No, not in the slightest, but I do tend to vote that way. I will sometimes call myself a republican though out of pure spite for the democratic party. I don't know about your areas, but over here, the democrats just rip into the republicans for any decision but think that Al Gore, both Bill and Hillary Clinton, and all the other obnoxious democrats are the best thing to happen to this country. Don't get me wrong, I think the republicans make mistakes, but I notice that they don't get on the democrats' case's as hard for theirs.

You are right on Alanscot. I have been following Conservative Libertarianism for 8 years through the Foundation for Economic Education (www.fee.org). Like you I usually vote Republican. One is pretty much forced to vote Republican to keep the Democrats out.

I am a Libertarian that VOTES Libertarian. I don't care if my vote is the only Libertarian vote in the entire nation. I vote my concience. I also do not see much difference between the two major parties. Before all you Republicans get all defensive, there are some major differences, but when it comes down to the important ideologies, the differences are miniscule. I do discount the extreme leftists, of which there are many in Congress.
I am with Alan 100% with regard to government. I go a step farther and recommend that for violent capital crimes involving rape, vicious bodily injury, and murder, we should reinstitute Devils Island. One for males and one for females. The US has the where-with-all to find an island and create a penal colony for banishment of these sociopaths. Give them some farm implements and seeds, carpentry tools and lumber, and let them go at it. Banish the murderer for life, never to get off the island. The others, let them spend 20 or 30 years, with men or women, just like themselves.
Remember, vote early, and vote often!
PS: If you do a poll in bar graph form, don't forget the Libertarians and other independent parties.
I'd like this country to go back to one man, one vote.
I usually wind up voting Republican, yet I'm a little farther to the Right than most Republican's.
I'm in favor of Capitol Punishment for a Second Felony conviction, Abortion for any Citizen of America, free, paid for at the Federal level, and Restitution from the Slovenly minded Polititions that our Government has to defend in thier Moral's trials.
I don't know if there is such a thing but I heard Robin Williams use this in his stand up to describe G.Dubbya "Compasionate Conservitave". I think of myself along these lines not as a rebublican but that is what I voted the one time I have voted (i'm only 20). It may be just becasue I am young but i do feel would some people would consider liberal idea on some subjects but then i am very very conservitave on other(I am conservitave on more issues than not). My father who is very republican and has many ties to the republican party often says that he thinks I am more conservitive than him.
"If you're not a liberal by the time your 18 you are heartless. If you are not a conservitve by the time you are 40 you are brainless."
I guess I have been pretty heartless all my life but that fine cause i am not brainless.
