Disable tailgate lock

Simple question, is there way that I can disable my tailgate from locking?

I never had a locking tailgate before and I cant ever seem to remember to hit the darn unlock button when I jump out of the truck and need to open the tailgate.

You might be able to do it in FORSCAN, but I will defer to the experts. What about the settings menu on the dash display? I know there are functions you can turn on/off in there.

Unplug the solenoid inside the tailgate.

^^This is the easy solution. Remove the access panel and unplug the power lock actuator. It doesn't harm anything and solves the problem.

So I looked up how to disable autolock in the menu, maybe that will take care of it. Good tip on unplugging, that will be next.

2020 F150 XLT Super crew Tailgate lock

I have the same dilemma. I live in Grand Forks, ND. Crime is not an issue here but I still lock my cab up but rarely lock my tailgate. Often I'll go and fetch supplies for work and put them in my box. Then when I get to work I have the guys unload the box. Trouble is that when I lock the cab, it locks the box. So I have to leave my entire vehicle insecure so they can get in the box. Then there are times that I want my box locked when I have expensive tools in there and I am stopping at a motel for the night.

So permanently disabling the lock is not an option. I just need the freedom to lock the tailgate whenever I want to lock it and leave it unlock when i need to. I haven't found anything involving forscan to do this. My tailgate handle does not have a key lock. It does have a camera so I don't want to lose that feature. So I am thinking of installing a hidden switch in my dash that allows me to interrupt/disable power to my tailgate lock for times I don't want it to lock even though I locked my cab. Then I can turn the switch "on" when I do need my tailgate to lock when I lock my cab. Trouble is that I cannot find a wiring diagram for my pickup. Will I need to run wires from my tailgate to my dash? Are there wires already in the cab somewhere that I can add a switch to and it won't effect my cab doors? Will my idea even work in the first place?

I am new to forums. So if I am doing something improper then I apologize. I don't know how to start a new thread.

Open the tailgate for your guys and hit the lock on your fob.

Thats the only solution I ever came up with.

Do you have the keypad on your door? If not you could add it easily and then just give them the code.

i got really frustrated with this as well, what fixed it for me was disabling auto-lock in IPC. It was annoying backing out of the garage and being locked out of the rear cab and bed

Thats a good idea if it would work - interrupt the tailgate lock with a switch (Upfitter) and turn it On/Off when you want. Not sure how involved it would be, but a good idea.

The upfitter switches are designed to provide 12V to a load. Using the upfitter switch to interrupt the continuity of a circuit will require a relay. The upfitter switch would be used to close or open the relay which in turn will make or break the circuit continuity. Wiring from the tailgate to a location under the hood would be required. The wire could be for power to the relay if the relay was located within or near the tailgate or the wiring could be to break continuity to the lock circuit if the relay was located under the hood.

Another method that might work is a low profile switch, such as
this this
, mounted directly to the tailgate. I'm thinking there is enough clearance with the tailgate closed along the left or right edge. If it works, it will greatly simplify the installation. Depending on your situation, turning the auto lock on or off at the tailgate may be as convenient as doing it from the cab.

Why not give your guys the door code so they can unlock it themselves?
