6.7 Engine Warm Up

I had a 2001 7.3 PSD that when I started it I always (almost) let it run and warm up for at least 10 minutes. Any recommendations on warm up time or procedure on a 2017 6.7 PSD? Currently, I am doing the same, trying to get the engine to operating temp before turning off. Am I wasting time and diesel fuel?

On the warm up, yep. I give mine about 10-20 seconds, then ease on until she is up to temp. During winter, I give a little longer.

When towing heavy, I let the oil temps come back down before shutting off. Those were my practices on the 2012 and are currently the ones for my 2017.

No special warmup needed...drive it just like a gas powered car. Your old 7.3L used HEUI fuel injectors which needed the oil to be warm to work at their smoothest. The 6.7L just uses electronic solenoid injectors similar to a gas engine.

Its not good with any vehicle to just fire it up and slam it into gear and hammer on it. It is OK to start the vehicle and take off from cold, as long as you are gentle on it until it starts to warm up a bit.

I try to use my remote start to fire up the truck as I approach it. That eliminates the annoying 2 seconds or so delay to start the engine while you have to hold your foot on the brake pedal...and it gives it the 10-30 seconds to warm up as you approach and unlock the vehicle.

Up here in NH, I'll often let my truck start and run the full 10-15 minutes of remote start allowance before I drive off...mostly because when its zero degrees out, its going to be freezing inside the truck and you likely can't see out the windshield!
