99 Ford Expedition
I here a problem with a 1999 ford Expedition. I have no brake lights and can not put the gear shift in to drive or move it at all.
The car starts normally. I have checked all the fuses and they all checked out ok. The owners manul say's this is a safety feature and gives instruction on checking the fuses and the bulbs which I did with no success. Can someone please help??
If so, the shift lock actuator is acting up, probably as a consequence of a bad brake light switch. This device is mounted on the steering column. The actuator is energized (locking the shift lever) by turning the ignition key to the run position. The actuator should be de-energized at this point by pressing the brake pedal. Apparently this is not happening in your case. The trick to get the transmission in gear is to get the shift lever out of "Park" and into "Neutral" with the ignition switch in the position just before the "run" position. Once you get the trans into "Neutral", you can start the engine and shift into gear.
Just realize that you have to repeat this routine every time you want to shift out of "Park" and the brake lights will still be inoperative.
