Seat belt chime - I finally won!
So the airbag light is burnt out in my '07. This would seem to mean that I can't disable the seat belt chime via normal channels since the procedure requires the airbag light to flash. I did try several times after watching some videos, and just waited about how long it should have taken when the airbag light was supposed to flash, but no go.
Then I thought I'd just jumper the wires at the seatbelt latch, but it would seem '07 was the first year of pre-tensioners. You can't do this, you just get the annoying chime every 30 minutes or so of driving, and it goes on for a long time when it goes. It's performing some sort of system check with the pre-tensioner system and it knows if you've just jumpered the wires. I believe '06 and earlier CAN do this, however.
Finally I bought a "mini" seat belt extender off ebay. It's just a female latch for you to buckle into with a male buckle on it to go into the existing seat belt. Works like a charm, the truck just thinks the seat belt is always buckled!
Also I'm only 5'10"/163 and not the type who would normally need a seat belt extender, even a "mini." But I'm surprised at how much I like it. It's just way easier to buckle and unbuckle.
In case I didn't mention it ('cause someone's going to post that I'm an idiot and I should have just followed the procedure in the owner's manual - just watch), my airbag light is burnt out so I cannot disable the seat belt chime. I have little desire to send the cluster off for repair - - unless my dome light should start flashing as I also have the sporadic brake light fault in my cluster. Go Team TFI!!! Good job on your electronics, Ford!
