I have a 2003 F250 Super Duty 4x4 with V10. I want to buy a fifth wheel Ford says it will tow 10,000 pounds. That's not a very big trailer. Is there any modifications that can be done to tow more. It has 3.73 gears and stock engine. It has Kand N cold intake set up but that's it.
You can swap rear end to 4.3 , that will increase 5th wheel towing capacity to 13,800 Lbs (like my truck). That's all you can do in real terms . Make sure the 5th wheel you want to buy has a "hitch weight" less than 2000 Lbs. and the less the better ( since your F-250 has less gross vehicle weight rating -GVWR , compared to F-350 and there is nothing you can do about it ) . After market additions (tunes, air-bags,etc) will not increase your factory recommended towing capacity . Good luck,
lol I like how you mention gears twice:
like swapping from 3.73's to 4.10's and loving that. Then get headers and free flowing exhaust, and then spend another $1500 on gears again to go even lower.
Good times.

My list would be: Gears
Tunes Gears
Headers Gears
Exhaust Gears
But I'm not suggesting to redo the gears multiple times, I'm just stressing how going with deeper gears is THE BEST option for improving the towing prowess of the V-10 platform. My V-10 EX only tows (11,000lb TT) for us these days with no daily driving and I have done all the mods I listed and without question, the deeper gears made the single biggest improvement in towing performance.
I've towed heavy with two different V-10 Superduty trucks. The first came stock with 3.73 and I paid to change it over to 4.30. That made all of the difference. When I ordered my current truck I spec'd out 4.30's to begin with.
It really makes a huge difference in the V-10 trucks.
I have only had 2 F250's. A 99 v10 and my current 2007 V10. Prior to buying the 99 I test drove 2 v10's back to back...a 3:73 and a 4:30. I ordered the 4:30.
My current v10 also has the 4:30. I can't imagine either truck without them.
