I just recently purchased a 1995 f-150 m50d 300-6 combo 2wd. It appears to have a 86-91 M5OD swapped in. I say this because the drivers side of the case has a transmission output speed sensor with cut wires. The first problem i'm having is the shifter is not lined up with the hump hole. WHen i pulled off the boot the shifter had been bashing into the sheetmetal enough to curl it. As it is, after cutting away some metal behind the back of the shifter i still can't access thearea enough to install the shifter repair kit i purchased. Is the earlier model m5Ods longer? What could be the issue i already mangled my transmission hump just to be able to shift without hitting the metal. The second problem is the tailshaft where it mounts to the transmission is leaking. Can i remove it and reseal it with rtv while the transmission is mounted to the truck or are there parts that will fall out? Thanks
From inside the cab your transmission cover should look like this. If you are calling the red connection the speed sensor it should be on the driver side. It is actually for your reverse lights. Also look at the size of the cover hole compared to yours. Search your vin and see if it came with an automatic.
Let's see a picture of the top side of this picture for a better view of what is going on. As they say "that ain't right".
No not the red sensor I'm talking about the sensor in the transmissions tailhousing. I will get a pic of the inside with cover off and check my mounts
Good we need to see that side We have the same style of truck. Yours should look like mine from inside the cab. If not it was an automatic I would think. your vin will tell you https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/vindecoder.php
Your transmission looks very different from mine. Couple of obvious things is your removal/install bolt that holds the shift lever on runs front to back. Mine runs from side to side. Your reverse light connection is in an entirely different place than mine. I would say at this point your transmission has been swapped from a different 150 year series. Sandy
I clearly could tell this myself however it's still and m5od which I was told is the same length no matter the year so what's the deal and what do I do, make a customer shifter hump?
At this point, my knowledge is limited as to the best and proper way for you to proceed. I would PM 9F2urd and/or Mudsport92 that posted above and ask them to look at the new pictures and offer advice. Yes your passenger side Motor mount is shot. Why they wouldn't change both questions their skills which may be the cause of your trans issue.
I have been searching the net, to find out what you have because it has a different top plate than mine. Now before you start saying different year F150, my 95 trans has a top plate off of an 89 M5OD because I needed new forks and had a top plate laying around off of an old trans. I have reason to believe it's an M5OD out of a Thunderbird. I THINK the 3.8 has the same bellhousing as the 300-351. So if it was a junkyard trans they probably grabbed what they could. And the t-birds would have a shift tower further back than the trucks. But this is all a theory, someone more versed in ford transmission info will have to chime in. Bit you may beable to find a top plate for a truck or bronco and bolt it on

I considered that possibility but I thought the shift forks would be in different positions. Perhaps I am thinking the 99 or 2000+ years
