I have a new F250 srw cc 4wd gas short bed. I also have a 20' enclosed ATC car trailer weighing 2800# empty and 7000# loaded. I have the truck set up with an Equalizer WD hitch for the loaded weight of 7000#. I need to drive out to Chicago to pick up my car. It's about 900 miles each way. My question is should I be concerned about the WD on my way out empty? Should I just leave the WD setup as is?
Maybe just not install the spring bars for the way out?
I had an 18' beavertail flatbed and a 24' enclosed car trailer, both rated at 7K# maximum. After inital set-up, I never adjusted the equalizer bars. The only time I towed the box trailer without the bars was when I brought it home new from the seller empty ... and it wanted to wander around some. They always pulled straight with the equalizer hitch. So hook up your hitch as normal and don't sweat it.
Thanks for the input. That's kind of the way I was leaning but I've read a couple of other threads that recommend leaving the WD bars off when not loaded.
Sounds like a plan! When I bring the trailer home from where I store it I'll get to put 30 miles on it empty so I should get a decent feel for how it reacts empty. Thanks again to all for the input

Nice truck, nice trailer, nicer cargo! Here's my toy, but no nice enclosed trailer to haul it in... I'm stuck driving it if I go anywhere.
Just an update. Trip went beautiful. Hauled trailer 900 miles empty with WD bars installed with no adjustment and the rig handled great. It pulled even better on the way back loaded.
