Reading Truck Trends, they state that the 2008 F250 Diesel 6.4 is one of the best if not THE best F250 series to own.
I had a 97 4X4 diesel model which I honestly did not like. The ride, the seats, the over all experience was not good for us.
I went to a 2000 Excursion which was kind of overkill for my purposes, towing a 5500Lb trailer... After a few happy years I sold it, maybe stupid ,,,but I got a 2006 Expedition 5.4 which has been good to us. A few repairs and a spark plug
nightmare, but overall good. I now tow a 4000+ lb trailer.
I am sorta looking to move into a diesel again. I figure 10 years newer model year than my last one would be better.
What experiences have owners of 2008 models had? My needs are-
1. reliabilty
2. Longevity
3. Reasonable cost of ownership
4. Hopefully decent fuel mileage.
5. A ride I can tolerate.
I have also looked into a 20011 EcoBoost but not sold on that yet..
That's funny. Obviously they never owned one long enough. The 6.4 makes good power but gets expensive quickly when it needs repair and it doesn't get that great of mileage. If it gets tuned, it will need repair sooner than later. The more reliable diesels are the 7.3 and the 6.7. Cost of repair is relative for either one, but the good 7.3s are getting hard to find. The 2011 6.7s had some valve and turbo issues, so I would stay away from them. They will ride better than the older models and have more creature comforts. All depends on the budget.
I figured mileage and longevity would be better. My 5.4 is well maintained at 156000 and I just changed the trans fluid so I am set for awhile. Just thinking down the road a bit. I like to study up on vehicles before I buy.
I have no issues towing now, using wd bars.
Mileage not better with a diesel?
Ecoboost maybe?
