Question: here in AZ a lot of us leave our trucks running to maintain the AC for our Dogs. 100-115* If I leave the truck running with the second key fob in the center console and either lock or don't lock the truck shuts off automatically after 10-15 minutes. Why? I thought with the second fob in the truck the ignition would still be on and stay on.
How can I keep the truck running without being in the truck?
Not to worry about theft, no one can get near or in the truck with 3 120# Giant Schnauzers.
OK I found it in the Owners Manual on page #181. Evidently my truck is equipped with the auto shutdown. This will shut off the ignition after15 minutes of idle. Will have to figure a way to inable this. Has anyone tried to do this?
The OM should explain how to change that duration, plus it tells you how to extend the time AFTER the truck has been running ... sorta' like how a snooze button works. I've been reading the OM online, but now I can't find the section covering remote starts and idle time.
You can’t unless you have the dealer type scan tool and software, some members of this forum have the software. It’s a very expensive software, the dealer can enable this but they will charge you

Thank you so much. I am willing to pay to either extend this or remove it altogether.
I guess I over estimated my Dogs. I thought they might be shutting it off by stepping on something or God forbid, chewing on something. Grateful to all on this site for all the knowledge that is shared.
if you got a poor man's truck they idle forever so long as they key is in the ignition
Yea but doing my best to spend my kids inheritance before I am catapulted off this Planet.
After a little research I found out that only a handful of states require this. Yep you guessed it California started this and is the main problem.
I believe there are 5 or 6 states involved so Ford ops to equip all there vehicles to appease these 5 or 6. Now I have to pay someone to delete or extend time for idle with IDS. Idle shutdown is not required here in Arizona or 44 or 45 other states. One hour minimum (takes 15 minutes)@ $135 per Hour.
Work over to settings, and you can disable it on the dash. Only trick is that you have to do it each time you start the truck. Not hard. You just have to remember when you have your dogs. Can be done permanently if you have the programming know-how, but this way works well for me.
Thanks, found it under settings/advanced/engine idle. Too bad we have to do this each time. Just have to remember each time I take the Dogs. Still going to reprogram it via IDS next time I am at my dealer in Phoenix. (90 miles) Until then I will do it manually. Thanks again.

you must not have been in the propane business, i'm wondering how the hell i'm gonna get to old age with ANY money with three kids!
granted they'll all get a sizeable gun collection as i was able to wisely allocate money towards that before any of them were born...
There's a DIY for Stationary Elevated Idle Control (SEIC). This will disable the shut-off. If you don't disable using Forscan, I'd go this route. Even if you only bump the RPMs up by 150-200 or so.
