Thanks for the pics Jack. I had a disagreement a couple of years ago where a guy said that the Ford modules never had matching colors and I said that at one point I was sure I'd seen one or two that did.
And maybe it was a very early module vs a late, or a certain color vs another, but since I've been looking I've yet to see one withe matching striped wire. Only a few I've seen recently had matching stripes on one plug, but never the 4-wire.
Probably a cost vs benefit thing for the manufacturer of the modules (stripes cost money) and they just figured as long as they base colors matched and there was no way to connect to the wrong branch of the harness anyway, why not save a few pennies.
Still looking though. Don't mind being wrong, but I'm still hoping to find one single old module to vindicate my side of the argument. We know that most don't have them, but hoping to find one that does.
With so few originals left around though, it might be a losing battle.
New Motorcraft module. I put some washers behind it for better air flow (like suggested). The old modules four wire plug had both the ears/clips broken off, so it's been off in the past for testing/diagnosing or something? Maybe I did that when I was in high school or something....You can see where the old epoxy leaked out on to the inner fender, I was able to pop the epoxy off with a chisel, you can see the clean original metal inner fender finish.
Question ....so my 79 f100 currently has the Motorcraft ICM D8VE 12A199 A2B thats melting away. Im going to try the washer method and see if its handles well but i want to get another one in the meantime just in case. So which one replaces it? I didnt quite understand from the posts above. Thanks in advance

D9VZ-12A199-A (replaced D6AZ-12A199-A & B) .. Ignition Module - blue grommet / Marked with ID number: D8VE-12A199-A1B or A2B or A1C or A2C / (Motorcraft DY-184-C) / Obsolete - Replaced
D9VZ-12A199-A was replaced by 1U2Z-12A199-AA (Motorcraft DY-893) several years ago and I've been told it's made in China. Look for a D9VZ original.
