OK!!! What is up with the back plug on the right bank of the 460 engine in my 1992 F-250 4wd? How on God's green Earth are you supposed to replace that plug? Also I have Bosch platinums in it now but seem to have a bit of a hestitaion when accelerating mildy. I replaced the wires with 9mm Motorcraft wires. The throttle body is clean as a whistle and the cap and rotor are fresh. Perhaps a new coil is in order? I opened up the intake snorkel on the Air cleaner assy to allow better air flow and the fuel filter is brand new. any other tricks to get more horses out of it and better towing capabilities?
The turck has 113,000 on it and has a 5 speed manual transmission. Perhaps an aftrmarket exhaust to permit freer exhaust flow? I'd love to pull the damned catalytic converter off but oh well
Try accessing that plug from underneath the vehicle . Also , It has been my experience from seeing several driveability issues that using Bosch plugs in a Ford Engine does not work , Bosch plugs do well in Euro vehicles , Not Fords . Use the Motorcraft plugs gapped properly & you shouldnt have any problems in that area .
Speaking of Motorcraft plugs, where does one buy them? Presumably a Ford dealer can get them, but do some auto parts stores also carry the Motorcraft line?
I purchased the motorcraft plug wires at a local Consumer Auto Parts store. The only problem I had with them that the boot is a bit larger than the OE wire and a bit of a pain to get seated on the plug because of the heat shield that protects the plug from the exhaust manifold
I tend to stay with OE stuff when it comes to plugs. I worked for JEEP delaerships for over twelve years as a Parts Manager and loved to see JEEPS come in with driveability issues right after some one had done his own tune up. You are exactly right when you say stay with the OE plugs. JEEPs would run like junk on anything other than Champion plugs.
