Red neck fixing time

My 4x4 solenoids went bad an I don't have the cash to replace them. So I just rigged up a vacuum line to engage and disengage the 4x4. Now my 4x4 light stays on and that was expected. I threw out the solenoids by mistake. Question is can you rig the connectors to fool the computer thinking there are solenoids are there? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

The solenoid coils have a resistance that the module is looking for. Since the solenoids are missing the module thinks there is an open in the wiring to the solenoid or in the solenoid coil. You can try jumpering a 10 or 20 ohm resistor across the plug that went to the solenoid coils and that should turn the light off. Too bad you don't have the solenoid, you could just plug them back in.

Both went bad at the same time!
Doubt that.
A new one from Ford is about $50.
You caused yourself more hassle that than spending for a new solenoid knowing you will keep the redneck rigging in place.
At least go to a Yard and get them.
Good luck.

Seldom does the solenoid winding go open.
There is a piston that is moved by application of current flow.
If it sticks closed or open the Actuator will not function properly.
On the top is a small black cap about the size of a Nickel.
Under it is a filter that keep dirt out.
It may have dried up and some fell into the solenoid.
Sometimes worth the effort to spray some cleaner in and operate the solenoid to free it up but no guaranty it will last.
Good luck.

Update, after looking all over I finally found the old ones. Thanks for the input.
