Just wanted to provide some feedback regarding the rev x. Since we have owned our truck (10 years now) I have used Diesel Kleen. Whenever I forgot to add it my wife would immediately notice the difference as it would buck when cold (anything below 180F). Over the past couple of months is began to get worse and the regular injection of Kleen only helped marginally. Three weeks ago we left the driveway heading for the cottage. Every hill was a nightmare of bucking. We decided to shoot into town on the way such that I could buy and add some Diesel Kleen. It made a difference but still bucked on some of the steeper hills on the way home.
After reading about Rev x and knowing the the injectors use oil to fire I decided to pick up some and try it. On a side note, our local ford dealer sells it.
I poured one bottle in and drove 5 km back home. The truck was warm so I did not get to excited when it did not buck.
Three hours later I had to go into town and pick up my son. I started the truck and drove it a 110F when I left the driveway. Not a single buck! even cold. We live in a very hilly area and it ran smoother than it did when it was new.
Three weeks later and I can confirm that it has resolved my problem. It starts and runs like a dream. I realize it is probably temporary but at least my wife can drive it and not spill her coffee.
If it does last , it means that it will increase my oil change cost by 75 dollars but it is still cheaper than the 5000 to replace the injectors.
If it starts again, I suggest you try Archoil 9100 friction modifier. There are some posts on here that indicate the 9100 is better for stiction then RevX. I never had a stiction issue but I have used 9100 since it came on the market. 150k and still going strong.
I am just doing a ballpark as far as replacing all injectors at 300 each plus labour at 100 hour. I am Canadian so we do get spanked with the cost of parts.
Rev x is 65 bucks per bottle plus tax so add that to an oil change......
I had a similar experience with RevX. Problem is, it doesn't last very far into the next oil change without it. I understand after the initial two bottle treatment, you can drop back to just one per oil change which helps in the cost department a little.
I found Archoil was effective also and had an added benefit of making the engine a little quieter at idle and on the road. It didn't work as fast on the rough idle and cold running issues but it did work after a hundred miles or so.
In the end (long story of spool valve polishing) I opted to replace the full set of injectors rather than pay a lot of money for some basic chemicals. I did the work myself, it wasn't too bad of a job, and once my wallet quit crying, have been happy with the results.
Rusty, I've got two injectors in bad shape when cold. Curious. Did polishing the spool valves not work for you? I was planning on doing just that, but if it's not worth it, I'll put some motorcraft rebuilds in.
It (polishing the spools) didn't work for me. I've read several posts by folks who were happy with their results but my truck ironically started nice and idled smooth cold but was way down on power even when warmed up.
Rev-x will only be a band aid, I have used it with great results for the first few hundred miles and it was back to square one.....
I cleaned the spool valves and that caused more head aches than it was worth for me-hpo leaks after
I replaced all 8 injectors and the truck has been great ever since
Thanks for the info. Ive used archoil 6200 with success. But not running it in this oil change. Reduced results without it. Im an archoil fan, not revex, so ill give their cleaner another try before doing injectors. Ill log back on to see what tools and brushes are needed, and what oring kit to get.
