I have a 2000 excursion v10ltd and have had problems with the automatic hubs for a while. The service people I use have "hand tested" the hubs and tell me they are ok, but as soon as I am on(off) the road I am not getting them to succesfully lock. It seems I will need to do manual locking untill I can afford some new ones.....? Then I read somewhere about vaccum problems- ? The service guy is a Suburban veteran, might he not understand the magnificant Ford?
There are alot of threads about the auto hubs becuase they're a common problem on a 4wd Excursions, F-250s, and F-350s. Check around the 7.3 forum and you should find your answer. I wish I could tell you more about this, but I bought a 2wd not a 4wd. I hope this helps.
Thanks a lot for that one. I have searched for HUB in the superduty and other forums and found as you say a lot of discussions. I had the price for replacement hubs from the local Ford dealer and they talked about a price equal to $500 per auto hub - close to $1000 dollars for a pair. Sounded like loony as manual hubs from Dana would cost me approx. $300 for a pair. What would the auto replacement hubs from Ford cost me in US, you think?
Thanx for that one. Usefull. I'm following another trace at the moment as well. The local Ford importers Excursion specialist is to guide my service people to where there might be a vaccum leak. I'll report back when I know more. (This is the people servicing my X - http://www.techlinebilelektro.no/ - sorry to say they work mostly on old chevies)
