Explorer brake lights,, HELLPP

Hi-
I have a2001 Explorer Sprot, the brake lights went out on it, including the top brake light,the parking lights and turn signals work, I have checked all the bulbs except for the top brake light because I don't know how to get into it,,,I checked the fuse's that I believe go to the lights and they look fine,,any idea's???????????

My 95 Explorer top brake light has also gone. I, too, can't figure out how to get into it.....looking for ideas, too.

Hi- I did figure out how to get to that brake light,,,if you have inside type panelling on the cargo door,,pull it down and there should be a peice of tape covering holes,,and that is where the light is,,,kinda scary a little pulling down the interior but it worked,,,still haven't gotten the lights back on though,,,,uuughhh

Sounds like it may be the brake light switch has failed. It is usually mounted on the brake pedal linkage under the dashboard.

You may be able to unplug the wires from the switch and check the switch with an ohmeter.

i know on a 94 you open the liftgate and from that pont all you need is a phillips head screwdriver....

Yea ,,,I am going to test the switch,,,I found the blown fuse today re-placed it and it blew again on a drive just up to the store,,,soo now I have to find the short,,,any ideas other then the switch lemme know,,,I am a little lost on the electrical system,,,anyone in S.D.,CA?????
