So I set the timing on the engine to 10*BTDC. Shut the truck off to tighten the distributor hold down bolt. Try to restart it and it wont start. If I retard the timing cloe to TDC 0* it will start and idle. What should I look for?
im curious if the tab is not right or the balancer ring has slipped. might have to determine tdc the old fashioned way and see where things are pointing AND make sure the right wire on the cap is pointed to by the rotor...
The pointer is in the right position and isn't loose. The balancer looks like it hasn't slipped, rubber looks undamaged. TDC is correct on the balancer according to the pistons position. And the rotor is pointing at the number 1 distributor cap contact.
I'm lost on this truck. I have correct fuel pressure, injectors all measure 11 ohms, 12v to all injectors, ground pulse to all injectors, spark at all plugs, clean airway, no codes, no vacuum leaks visually, compression all within 150 psi. I don't know where to go now, I need some suggestions.
Where are you at now? In your original post under #1 you said if you set the timing at TDC the engine would start and idle. Do you have a complete no start now or what?
Well the original issue was it was idling rough and hesitation when accelerating which it still has. So I wanted to check ignition timing which was set at around 0*. At 0* the truck would start and idle somewhat. When I adjusted it to the correct 12* it wouldn't start at all. So now its still retarded to about 0* so I can at least start it and move it.
