Are sync updates vehicle specific?

Are sync updates vehicle specific?
My 2016 SHO has an update to sync version2.2. My truck is running version 2.0, can I load the update to my truck or is it downloaded for each vehicle? If not I will probably also pass it on to a guy at work with a 2015 sho that isn't very tech savvy.
