Hey guys. I have a dually that breaks something on the rear axle every time I hook to a sled. The last break it sheared the axle bolts at hub AND broke the splines off the axle. Does anyone make chromoly shafts? I really want to keep the sterling but I need more strength

Honestly I do not know what they offer upgrade wise but if you half to go to a upgraded rear axle get a 05-06 up dually rear axle Ud half to run different rear wheels but I believe you'd be surprised in the shear size difference plus your speedometer will still work by installing ur current rearend speed sensor

Could you use the carrier from the 05 and put in the obs ? If that works then could you get the shafts to bolt to the obs hubs?

Yeah I been doing some searching since that last post. Single wheel trucks run the sterling and duallys have the 80. Getting the hubs drilled to 8 on 6.5 should be easy enough. I have found a dodge 80 but may be a cab and chassis truck. I'm gonna check it tomorrow.

I really want to keep the sterling but if it has to go then it's out. 2 to 300 dollars at every pull to fix it doesn't work.

Here's a picture of the last pull. Maybe I could get by by taking the outer duals off and spinning more

Get rid of the sterling, its a great axle but not for shock loading and pulling. I just went through this on a friends truck we built. Same thing, however he was already running SD axles, and kept shearing the bolts off the axle flange. I ended up welding the entire thing solid, and that just led to a broken shaft. It currently has a 80 out of a 550... no issues so far.

What injector/turbo combo are you running?

So today I found a dana 80 from a dodge. I also found an aam from an 07 dodge. Price difference between the 2 is crazy but either is an option

I decided to run the dodge dana 80. It's cab and chassis so we'll see what it takes to make it work
