PCM location
does the PCM need to be shielded entirely from weather inside the cab, or could it live in the engine compartment (so no direct weather, but obviously not as protected as inside)?

The PCM need to be shielded entirely from the HEAT and water.
That is why it is inside the cab and only exposes its plug.
But plug need dielectric grease that has not harden to keep the water from shoring the plug pins.
