Unhappy Engine gear failure when towing

I am truly hoping someone can help me. I have been to two Certified Ford dealerships in Toledo, Oh, and Sevierville Tn. When I am towing my 35' fifth wheel camper (Jayco Ultralight) with my 2011 F250 King Ranch I start having issues after about an hour or so driving. I try to drive in the Tow/Haul mode. After driving for several hours the gears start staying in low gears and not shifting as they should while pulling (please bear in mind I understand that it can stay in lower gear to hold back or slow down the camper on hills). It would not always change gears and the RPM's would go as high as 4000 and not change gears all while I am trying to slow down or manually change gears. When I was on level ground almost to my destination my truck would not go about 10 mph but the rpm's would reve up high. I could not change the gear manually or automatically. It was barely moving. After letting it sit for a while it was driving fine. I tried pulling my camper home recently in Ohio on flat ground from only an hour away. It did it again although not even in tow mode this time. It slowed down to about 10mph even though I had my foot all the way down on the gas peddle. It almost sounded like it was about to stall out as well.
I know this is a lot but would be greatly appreciative of any help or guidance someone might be able to give me. Thank you

It sounds like something has gone into limp mode. Have you checked to see if any trouble codes have been registered?

You might try posting to the 6.7L forum as it sounds like this problem is on the truck, not the trailer.

Gas or Diesel ?

remember the transmission can only do what the engine has for power..
low gears or not shifting maybe do to poor power from engine...

Find a Ford dealer that does lots of TRUCK repairs.. not a Ford Car dealership..
2 Ford dealerships is crazy.. they are not able or not willing .. my opinion.

I think you are absolutely right Chuck. I have found little to no help from them.

Since you plan to check in the 6.7 forum, I can only assume you have a 6.7 diesel.

Has the truck been modified in ANY way?

Have you had any trouble with your DEF tank or sensors?

Anything in the service history that may seem unrelated to you, but might provide that "ah ha" moment to others here?

Hasn't been modified at all. Spoke with one gentleman at home who said it might be the fuel filters not getting enough fuel to the engine to allow it to go into gear easily. I went and had them replaced ($320). The truck seems to be running fine, I won't really know until I pull my fifth wheel again. Praying it worked.

Did the tech that replaced the filters say anything about them being clogged or did you get to see the filters at all?

Keep us posted on what happens.

With a gasser, (and maybe I'm dating myself, as well... :-) ) I'd say that the tranny wasn't sensing manifold vacuum and thinks the throttle is still wide open. The diesel must have some way of sensing "throttle" - obviously not vacuum. 4K is really spinning a 6.7 up; it's redline, at least for a '17.

The filters are puzzling, too. I've heard high prices mentioned before, but $320??? (A local dealer offered to do mine for $195, which I politely declined.)

Yeah that is way too much for fuel filters alone. Hopefully you got an oil change and a reach around as well for that price.
