Can anyone confirm what turbo this is? Seller says van turbo but it also kinda looks like an early 99 to me. Are all van turbos the same? Or was it early van turbo then late van turbo? I have only seen the late 99 to 03 truck turbos in person. I am looking for a van turbo to rebuild and try on my truck.
I'd say it is a van turbo. My e99 turbo appears to have the same compressor housing, but has a .84 turbine housing, this one is 1.15. That and all the "extra" bits on the bottom of the pedestal are foreign to me.
Almost certainly a van turbo. As SaintITC pointed out, the A/R on the exhaust is 1.15 They used that on the van ( as opposed to 0.84 on the SuperDuty pickups) to lower the EGT, since the vans didn't have room in the nose for an intercooler.
The van turbo is also non-wastegated. While I see the EBPV controls on that turbo, I see no indication of a wastegate.
Also, the van turbo has a 3 bolt round-ish exhaust outlet adapter, whereas the trucks use I think 8 or 10 bolts, and the adapter ( and the turbo housing) is more of odd elongated outline. This is why you need an exhaust outlet adapter when using a van turbo on a truck. The van turbo also have a smaller outlet diameter, and downpipe, again due to space constraints. So, the stock van outlet won't mate to a truck downpipe, and a truck outlet won't bolt to a van turbo. Although the seller did an awful job photographing the important details on that turbo, it LOOKS like it has the van exhaust outlet, from what little I can see of it.
