For my two cents, it depends on what you intend to do with the truck. If you are going to keep it at stock ride height, or visibly close, I like 15 inch wheels. Again, for me, if the overall appearance is stock, 17's won't compliment it at all. They look out of place.
On the other hand, if you are going to lower it, especially slamming it, then go with the more modern wheel and tire.
These are 225/55-17. I think 245 would be too thin.
These look about right, front has already been lowered running 205/65/15 and intend to bring the rear down but want to change the wheels first as running 265/75/15 on the rears.
I like the taller sidewall look but want to see more wheel, thats why I want to go to a 17" rim.
These pics show the truck now, you can see the rear sits a bit to high
If you didn't already know the smaller the second number (the aspect ratio) the more they will be "rubber bands" (less sidewall rubber). And tires and or wheels will not change the body to curb ratio, if you think the rear is high you need to modify something in the suspension. You may already know this but then again maybe not.

Good luck on your choices.
thanks for the info but I did now how to read aspect ratio. I have seen 225/45/17 tires and think they look too much like rubber bands, don't suit the image of the truck IMO.
I know the suspension needs modifying but don't want to do that before changing the wheels and tires incase as its difficult to be sure how much to bring the back down without seeing where the top of the tires will finish
