More Tire Stuff

Greetings,

Im still trying to figure out tires/wheels. I have decided to go with a 20 inch wheel since it seems like there are more tire choices out there.

Is anyone running a 285/65 R20?

By my calculations, that is a 34.59 inch tire with 11.22 width. I just put on a 4.5 inch Icon kit and don't want anything TOO gigantic. Just a little bigger than stock tires. The 285/65 R20 has a slightly shorter sidewall but the tire is almost 1.5 inches taller.

Opinions?

Thanks

I know it's not what you are asking but have you looked at the 285 75/18? This tire lined up perfectly with the outside of my wheel well and it's 35.1" tall. Since you have a 4.5" lift the little taller tire may look a little better.

Thanks for chiming in. That is the other option I am toying with. Keep the stock 18 inch wheel and do the 285/75 R18. I think Toyo makes it.

I run the 285-18 tire and like the way it looks, and its not so wide that it grabs the ruts in the road.

You will not be disappointed with the Toyo's. They require little balance weights. The A/T is quiet and has aggressive tread. Guys around here are getting 60-70,000 with them...which is fantastic given the lower price.

are you sure that many miles?? I have never gotten anymore than 45k on any of my diesel truck tires. and that was with stock michelins that are a pretty hard compound.

I had the Toyo A/T's on my last truck (GMC) and they were quiet and seemed pretty average for off road. They worked as good as BFG's. I just don't like the looks of the tire. I went with the Toyo M/T's on this truck and they are a little louder but not bad. I took them into the snow last week and the snow was pretty hard and they cleaned out perfect. These are by far the best tire for off road I have ever run. It seems to be a good balance so far.

I guess it is really a matter of how you use your truck. I hate getting stuck and want to shovel a lot less so it's worth it to me to sacrifice a little tire mileage.

I have no idea how anybody can get 60,000 miles out of the Toyos on a F350.
I've owned four f350's and and put over 300,000 cumulative miles on them , and I get around 28,000 to 30,000 miles per set of tires. And teh Toyo have done no better. They are a 30,000 miles tire at best.

Maybe on a lighter weight truck or a truck that never tows you might get better mileage. But mine never have.

I did have the 285/75/18s on my 2006 KR. They ride nice, they are not a great tire for snow or mud, but are a good all around AT tire.

Thanks for everyones reply. Discount tire found a set locally and got them on.

Initial thoughts is how nice they ride compared to the continentals.

The tires and Icon kit really rounds out the feel of the truck. Feels more nimble, sure footed and rides really nice.
