getting ready to change the transfer case fluid in my 2011 6.2 superduty have any yall done this yet? what did yall use the motorcraft fluid or something else any suggestions for the rear end fluid would be appreciated also thanks.
I don't know what it takes but most of the time the fight is getting a container higher than the fill hole. I've used the long cylindrical rear end oil containers with the pointed spout. I've also used the little pumps that screw into one qt containers (I have one for doing lube changes in my lower unit on my outboard motor).
I use Amsoil Signature ATF (Red label and cap stuff) in the transfer case. Takes approx 2 quarts. Use some teflon tape to seal the plugs. For the Sterling 10.5 rear I use Amsoil Severe Gear 75w140. Takes approx 4 quarts.
Seal the cover back up with Permatex "Right Stuff". Some silicones and sealants are no rigid enough so you get leaks, the Right Stuff is rigid enough. Amsoil make a friction modifer if you have a clutch type LS diff. I got the hand pump from Amsoil which screws right on to all their bottles, makes adding oil a lot easier and less of a mess.
Both are easy to do. Now would be a good time to add an 08' finned aluminum rear cover or other aftermarket cover if you desire.
I only have 15k on my truck so I haven't gotten to this yet but my suggestion would be to use whatever ford fluid is in it now and to do this each time you change tranny fluid. For me will be every 30k miles. People frequently neglect their transfer case unintentionally- they say "well I don't use 4x4 that much" (I've said it myself too...in the past) however they fail to realize that your transfer case is always turning...if your rear end is turning then your transfer case is turning too. Change them at the same time.

im gonna use the amsoil in the transfer case and rear end but I will use the motorcraft in the tranny.
