I am looking for a F250 to carry a loaded weight of 2750lbs, and a dry weight of 750lbs. The truck will be used for as a pesticide truck, and as my initial investment I will need the truck to last me 75k miles on the same motor, trans, and rear end. I initially looked at only diesels and was leaning that direction until my local mechanic suggested I get a F250 FlexFuel. Can I please get some opinions from the experts out there. Obviously we can get a much cleaner truck going flex fuel with less mileage and much less on the expenditure. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
Your mechanic was very wise in his suggestion. The 6.2 is a great, reliable motor. If your buying new, order one with 4.30 gears because of the continuous load you will be carrying. It will feel like a 3.73 that is unloaded. But 3.73's will certainly work fine. Also, pay attention to gvwr. With your cargo and passengers with a full tank of fuel, you could be pushing it with some set ups, but not even close to others. Wheel and tire size play a huge factor in this.
The 6.2 is a great motor and very reliable. Be sure to look at the payload ratings on the trucks you are looking at, especially an F250. To get above 2750 lbs payload in an F250 you will be looking at an XL or maybe an XLT trim level.
I had an F250 Lariat CCSB 4x4 and the payload was 2496 lbs. I stepped up to an F350 XLT to get more payload, as you can see in my signature. Just something to think about as you are looking.
18 is a 2wd in ideal conditions. If you are buying a 4wd, you will never see 18. 16 would be a good hwy average. You could easily dip into the 11-12 range if you drive a lot of city and idle a lot.
I'll check my load rating when I leave work today, but I drive 15 miles back and forth between towns and I get 12.5 as my normal, 4x4 with the 3.73 gear and I have a flatbed on my pickup, last time I ran across a small scale the pickup was 4400 in the front and 4000 in the rear, seemed a little high. I think the best I got was 45 miles each way highway and that was 13.5 never seen anything higher yet.
I carry a 3000 lbs camper on my 2016 CC SB F250 6.2 4x4 with the truck camper package. It has the upper and lower overload leafs on the rear just like an F350.
Not a single problem. Truck handles it just fine.
Fully loaded with gear and camping stuff I'm a bit over GVWR, but under tire limits on the rear.
Your weights will be no problem for an F250.

Reason: terminology

Yes absolutely it will handle it no problem, I never questioned that. And you're fine using the truck personally for fun, but once you go commercial (anything for money) you are not, they don't care if you are 200 over, you're getting a ticket. So why not just get the 350 for the very nominal price difference?
