I reached 9250 miles and the "500 miles to Def empty" message came up. I filled the DEF tank and it took 6.9 gallons. That means I'm getting close to 10,000 miles per Def tank. That seems good to me
That seems really good to me too. I'm st 3200 miles and half full on def and I rarely tow. So I'm thinking I'll be looking at 6000-7000 miles per tank of def.
Do you tow much? That will affect the DEF consumption. I have mine topped off at every oil change (5k) and last time it took over 6 gallons. That was with quite a bit of towing.
I didn't tow much. Maybe five hundred miles but it was a heavy 16000 lbs fifth wheel. I'm very surprised that I went that far. I wonder if it drops off with age. I know they increased tank size but that's still better than my 2014 F350.
If it were me, like the OP, I wouldn't fill up the DEF tank until it was low and called for refilling. It seems to me that this is the best way to ensure the freshest DEF and quality consistency. YMMV.

I follow this logic as well. The foreman at the Ford dealership told me that the nature of DEF is to begin to gel as it ages. Said only fill up 5 gallons at a time when prompted by the low warning light.
You won't use much DEF until you push the pedal way down closer to the floor and for long periods, as in.... heavy towing and very steep grades = macho DEF gulping!
Without the extreme heavy towing?... lasts forever, so it seems anyways.
Kewl on your near 10K mi per DEF tank. I'll never see this however with my nasty towing habbits
I just filled up DEF for the first time at 4,000 miles at Pilot. No towing but heavy pedal and it took 6.1 gallons. I'd say the OP is doing great with the DEF usage.
