is a flat tappet worth it

I have a stock 302 in my ford it has a roller in it. Was thinking of doing a cam upgrade, but the rollers are so pricey. Would a little bigger cam that is flat tappet work well? I was pricing kits and 240 vs 1100.. big difference... looking a little more speed power... engine has 74,000 on it... 93 f150

I didn't know that you needed to replace the rollers with the camshaft, because they don't shape themselves to the camshaft like a flat tappet does. If anything you should be able to rebuild your current lifters.

You can also buy just the camshaft without the lifters.

Short of the lifters being damaged, ie broken, wheel chipped etc, you can reuse them on a new camshaft

If you change cam types you have to change pushrods too, but you literally need nothing but the cam if you stick with a roller. A nice upgrade is the COMP 35-512-8.
