AOD throttle valve adjustment

Who has the experience to guide me. I followed the instructions that came with the Lokar cable using an oil pressure gauge but it feels as though it is slipping as I start off..
By the way this AOD almost trimmed off 1100 RPM's at 100 KPH

What is your pressure at idle when adjusted as per the lokar instructions ?

And what are you running for a carb on what engine. Just want to confirm it.

I had the same trouble using the pressure gauge to set it. The best advice I got was to ensure the throttle and the lokar cable are working in a one to one relationship. Anything else and you will have slippage. Shift points should be around 20, 35 and 45 mph.

So I assume that is a Autolite or Motorcraft 2100/2150 Carb.

Ok so why not just use a factory TV rod instead of the Lokar set up ? Far more reliable and easier.

Here is a recent subject on exactly that.

If the shifts are mushy you may need to up the PSI a bit. As long as it is not too high it won't harm the trans long term.

It's an Autolite and the only factory rod I have was for the C6 that was in the donor, I had the Lokar set up for the C-6 as well and it worked fine, I have the Lokar cable for the AOD now..

Yes but the swap to and AOD TV rod is simple and cheap less then $20 from the wrecking yard and more reliable than the Lokar.

Closest wreckers is 90 miles away and not much selection and I've already got the Lokar cable installed.. i have no problem with the Lokar products, I have one on my panel as well but it has a 700R4 that is easier to set up..

Not sure if you will ever be able to get the Lokar set up correctly on the 2100/2150 as the kit they make is not for the 2100 series carbs. Keeping the ratio correct from carb to the trans is even more important than the pressure setting.

It is a myth that the ratio is 1 to 1 that would mean that the shaft center-line to mounting stud is same distance from the shaft center-line on both the carb on trans, such is just not the case.
Also the TV link on the trans is different between an EFI trans and a Carb trans. If you do not have the right bits matched to each other it will never work properly.
This is something Lokar does NOT take in to account in their kit.

Swapping in an AOD is not complicated provided you know what you are doing and are aware that almost NONE of the after markets have the correct throttle to trans ratio.

The PSI target is different between a carb and EFI 26-38 for a carb and 30 to 40 for EFI. Target is 33 on a carb trans and 35 on and EFI trans. The lokar gauge is the same as used on EFI applications.

Idle PSI on Carb application SHOULD NOT be less than 5 PSI and SHOULD be less than 5PSI on an EFI application.

Many of the after market AOD TV cables are wanting to say the least but can be made to work provided you are willing to do some fab work and calculations.
