Pondering getting an Excursion. Be using it for towing, you can see my current tow vehicle below. An Excursion I know would handle it great. Only dilemma I have is V10 vs. Diesel. I know overall the diesel is the way to go, but I don't want to spend the extra $6(I'm buying used.) for the diesel. I can buy a lot of gas for 6k.
What kind of mpg do you get with your V10, town and highway?
Regularly get 12+ city, and just did a round-trip to Darlington and got 14.5 ... calculated, not displayed on the over head .... have found the display to consistently be over by 0.4 MPG. Towed 5,200# of car trailer over the Appalachians (from Yorktown, VA to Carlise, PA and back), avoided the intestate route around DC, and got 11.5MPG.
And yes you can buy a lot of gas for the extra a diesel costs. Plus, gasoline is much more readily available, and doesn't stink as bad. On the other hand, if I was spending a lot of time towing heavier koads over great distances, I would've probably opted for the diesel.
So if you tow occasionally, get the V10. If you're going on a multi-week RV excursion (pun intended), get the diesel.
Jus' my 2-cents. It's going to be you're decision ... one with which you may spend several years (and $$$).
