Since my wife has calmed down with the '86 Flareside just about done, time to wind her up again (I guess) So I'm looking for (and will probably never find) a Studebaker M-29 Weasel......That's me on the left.
Yep, Ducks are bigger...
The DUKW is a six-wheel-drive amphibious modification of the 2½ ton CCKW trucks used by the U.S. military in World War II. Designed by a partnership under military auspices of Sparkman & Stephens and General Motors Corporation, the DUKW was used for the transportation of goods and troops over land and water.
The Weasel's primary function was for the 10th Mountain Division, and any "snow bound" mission
My father in law was 509th PIB and jumped in North Africa in late '42. Also at Anzio, then south of France with the 99th (Audie Murphy's Div) and finally wounded for the last time @ Battle of Sadzot during Battle of the Bulge. Even at the end of his life when dementia was advanced, he still remembered well his WW2 times. He loved that M1 Garand of mine, and I would break it out here and there and let him hold it (unloaded of course).
Great stuff, keep the memory alive and good luck finding that Stude!
This is what I love about parades, the REAL service people (not us reliving them for them) stand from their wheel chairs and salute......, we "break ranks" and go over and shake their hands and thank them for their service.
Occasionally we do let them hold the M-1. It does bring a renewed life to their faces!
Gonna keep looking But if any one sees "something" in someone's back yard/barns......
Thanks
