Ok, so I have a new 2017 F150 5.0 Lariat Supercrew 502A package. I'm about to upgrade my cell phone (currently have a Galaxy S6 edge) and going to upgrade to either a Galaxy S8 or iPhone 7. The new technology in Sync 3 allows voice access and use of Siri on your iPhone. Anyone have any experience (good or bad) using their iPhone and Siri?
Any thoughts and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I have the iphone 7 and it works great with Sync 3. Siri works fine. When using Apple Car Play, you lose some functionality of the vehicle system. This irritated me when I first got the truck, because I would go to charge my phone and it would automatically go into Car Play mode. However, there is a setting in Sync where you can set it so it doesn't do that automatically (like when you just want to charge your phone).
Now, I could be wrong, but I think you can use Google Maps or Waze on the screen if you have Android. You'll want to confirm this if it is something of interest to you. I'm just throwing it out there because I do use Google Maps and Waze...it would be nice to have it on the actual truck screen.

This is correct. I have the S8 and love using Google maps on the truck screen. I just found out on another forum that Waze just did an update to work with Sync 3. I'm going to try that out soon.

What type of computer do you use in your home.
If you use and prefer a Windows machine, then go with the Galaxy S8 but if you`re using a Mac in your home, go with an iPhone.
Apple products are designed to work together and you just can`t say that with a Galaxy S8 and a Windows computer.
Also, hold off on the iPhone7 because later this year the iPhone8 will be out and it`ll be announced in September.
Apple maps are much, much better than when they first came out and are on par with Google Maps and i`ve used both.
Also remember that Waze, which is very, very popular, is determined by the input from it`s users which means it`s not vetted like Apple Maps or Google Maps.
Ok, we're getting a little off base here, all I wanted to know was if there were any problems or advantages with using Siri and the iPhone interfaced with Sync 3. We're not comparing phones/operating systems here.
I was apologizing ahead of time because I didn't want it to become one because of my post.
can you explain to me what is, in your words, "totally false"
I was going to elaborate, but I wanted to keep it short (again....I'm not sure this is helpful to the OP), but just for starters.....Simply plugging an android phone via USB into a windows computer gives you access to both the hard drive of the device and the SD card (which iphone doesn't have) I would say that's working pretty well together.
If that's not enough you can use an app (free of course) called AirDroid that will bring up your entire phone on your computer. I use it all the time to upload music to my phone. Just drag and drop.
Getting back on topic though....I would also like someone to compare using Android Auto vs. Carplay. I know Android Auto works great for me, but I really only use it for Navigation with Google maps. I don't know why I would use it for anything else since all the other functions are available via Bluetooth.

I agree and apologize for my first posting.
With that being said, my iPhone7 Plus has worked perfect for me in my 2016 Lariat with the 502A and Siri also works without any problems at all.
Since you have a Galaxy S6 and you`ve been happy with it, i`d just make the jump up to the S8 and call it a day.

I was just checking my email and I received an email from BestBuy.
I guess it`s some type of back to school sale but they have the Galaxy S8 for 400.00 dollars off.
Thanks for the input. Think I'll take GABAR's advise and just upgrade to the S8, won't have to re-learn a new operating system, and I came to the conclusion that since I don't put that many miles on per year, surely I can get along without Siri during those travel times.
Android may not have Siri, but it does have google assistant that works well with Android Auto. It will send texts, dial calls, find places you may want to go, answer questions and that sort of thing. I use the "OK Google" stuff all the time in my truck.
+1. I get everything and more than I expect from Google Now. I am about as anti-Apple as anyone I know, so maybe not a fair comparison.
I dunno GlueGuy. We might have to have an arm wrestling contest about the anti-Apple thing. I absolutely despise that company.
I just picked up a new Samsung A3 (2017), unlocked with Android 6.0.1 and am loving it. Nice and small and it doesn't have all the bloatware AT&T and other providers install. I went with this model over the S8 or whatever the 'flagship' is because I don't do apps, I don't have Sync 3. I have my 3 email addresses, text (which I try not to use much), phone and a bunch of music. All I need. And no need for iTunes........

Same for me. I was happy when I found out you can push the Ford Sync button in the apple car play and get back to home screen.
