Sounds like you have a U joint problem on the driveshaft for a while that has just gotten worse. If you put the rear wheels SAFELY up on jackstands, you can rotate the driveshaft and check for movement.

also check your radius arm bushings these locate the front arms
of your years' twin i-beam type suspension, they are very bad about hardening and cracking. They will cause the clunk on stopping and a shake in the front end too-but ---dont forget to check your u-joints too. it is best to buy OEM Ford parts if you have a bad radius arm bushing and replace both sides, its better
if it is done that way, usually if one is bad both are. The radius arm bushings are about 40.00 parts and 120-140 labor as the old rivets holding the locating brackets must be cut off with a grinder
or torch(I wouldn't use this way) If you have a bad u-joint, not
such a big deal at 20.00 per joint and labor about 40.00 each, you might not need to do both of those. But this sounds like a
classic radius arm bushing.
