9 months - finally ordered

I started to buy a 2016 F250 6.2L last November (2016). Found a few units on different lots and got some pricing from 2-3 dealers. Some really great closeouts were available on 2016s.

Then I started reading here and other places about the 2017 F250, 6.2L HP and torque, the new transmission, and some of the new technology in 2017s. It didn't take long to decide ......2017 was a clear winner. But..... I wanted to wait for year-end close outs or late year incentives/rebates. I was in no rush and figured waiting would payoff.

Since I decided to go with 4.30 axle ratio....... an order became obvious.

I inquired about a few 3.73s on dealer lots recently, but, they were not 'exactly' what I wanted and pricing was OK. I just hate paying for options I don't want, or paying less just to buy something that I'm going to live with daily for the next 10+ years.

Finally..........
-- I collected a list of about 20 local and out of state dealers/contacts
-- Selected 8 from the list (3 local and 5 out-of-state) and emailed build specs
(I had made prior contact with all 8 and they were all expecting my pricing request)
-- 4 of the 8 responded with prices, all 4 were Invoice - $1000 or better
-- 2 out of state deals were the lowest but only by a couple $100
-- Selected local dealer (50 miles away)..... only about $350 above lowest price
-- Price = invoice - $2,000 (+ $200 doc fee)

FINALLY--Order went in last Wednesday July 19th. Order is for F250 CC Lariat 6.2L 4wd, 4.30 axle ratio, White/Caribou Accent, Camel interior, Camper Package, GN prep, Ultimate Camera, Lariat Value Pkg, ....... etc. etc. etc.

After 9 months I'm just glad its over. This was the hard part for me. Deciding exactly what I wanted/needed and waiting until late in the model year to order hoping for some improved incentives.

Based on current schedules order should arrive around mid-September. The only thing I have to decide now is when to take delivery based on incentive/rebate potential changes.

Thanks to everyone here for all their posts, opinions and time taken to share information. It has been a great resource for preparing to order.

BIG THANKS!!

This has been a great resource for me too. The hard part now is the long wait. Checking COTUS, Etis, and looking for a window sticker daily will become part of your life now. Get used to being frustrated, take the time to keep learning. I'm supposed to get mine in 8 days, but based on what I've read here that may be optimistic.

Glad to hear of your jump into the pool, hope the wait is not too bad and will look for your "It's in!" thread!

I started a thread several weeks ago asking the question about the balance out on Caribou and whether that applied to the accent. There were several responses.......Franz put in an order with Caribou accent and it didn't get rejected (or something like that).

Since they only have about 2 possible accent colors (Magnetic and Caribou) ...... and since it appears that the great majority use/order Caribou accent ...... I would simply be amazed if they stopped doing Caribou accent.

We'll see......................

congrats!!! you def have more patience than I LOL.

I test drove the 2017 and put my truck up for sale a week later. Sold the truck in about a week and then went to the dealer to place my custom order Lariat ultimate. Left the dealer that evening striking a deal on platinum ultimate that was a dealer trade. Took possession of the new truck next afternoon.

I am more cheap than patient.... Or maybe they are about equal.

I started looking at 2016 closeouts. I started out looking at F150 cc with 6.5' bed......what a unicorn. After looking a bit I realized I could get similar MPG as my current 2006 F150 5.4L by going to F250 6.2L and have more truck and load potential and...... No unicorn. The F250 6.75' bed is as plentiful as the 5.5' bed in F150.

The 2017 6.2L tweeks, the new transmission and other 2017 features kept me from jumping on a 2016. But, I wanted as good of price as possible so I decided to wait another year to get a 2017 late hoping for better price potential. This will also minimize my 2017 mileage if I need to change / trade in the next few years. While many have 20,000 + Miles already, I have 0.

So yes I guess I am patient. I could probably drive my current F150 another 5-10 years if I wanted, maybe longer. I just feel the need to 1) move from supercab to CC 2) Get as much as I can for F150 while under 200,000 miles 3) get some upgraded technology ( currently have no Bluetooth, cameras, etc) 4) improve my load capacity (blew my rear shocks last fall overloaded).

A new vehicle is nice but I hate the idea of flushing $50,000 that I don't have to...... so I'm also cheapo or at least practical, or trying to be.
