He doesn't have to worry about carrying a spare tire, spare ignition module, spare belts and hoses, spare anything.

When the truck dies on the rod, just pop out you "spare car" and your on your way.

There aren't any major components in that minivan. I towed a similar one home yesterday that weighed 4700 lbs. Ain't no way that half ton is carrying that kind of weight.

I think that guy is whole lot more than one brick short of a load.

Many, many years ago, in Baton Rouge, LA, a news story came out about a guy trying to carry a load of bricks in a long wheelbase F100. According to the newspaper article, the load was estimated @ ~3500#. As he drove down I-10, all 10 lug bolts snapped off the rear axle!!!

Some people will try anything.

I picked up a pallet of sod once in my F250. The pallet was placed over the rear wheels but the front end still lifted a lot. It lifted so much that I had a hard time braking and steering. The front brakes would lock easily due to not having enough weight on the tires, and once while I was trying to turn the truck just kept going straight.
I should have stopped at that point, but I was young then and more foolish then, and drove all the way home like that.

Truck: overloaded. Driver: one brick short (or maybe just loaded?)

One time when we were expanding our driveway we stuck all the dirt and stuff in the back of my truck. And then it rained. I weighed my truck and it came in at just over 10,000lbs. A bit much over the 8,600 gvwr
