Quick question!
Morning folks!
Back to my 1983 F250 with the 6.9IDI (4x4) and I'm trying to get my speedometer to work correctly today as it's one of the last things I need to fix. Apparently there's a gear on the output shaft that powers the speedometer (already replaced the cable and it's got a new gear on it) but I can't find the gear on the output shaft for the life of me SO!
second question to this - Mine has been converted over to R134a for the AC, but the adapter for the factory harness is MIA on both the compressor and the condenser unit...does anyone know where to get that wiring harness and where it plugs into?
Lastly - whats that gear called specifically and secondly, does it require replacing the entire output shaft?
Thanks well in Advance!
Nate

Being a 4x4 the speedo cable should go on the output of the transfer case.
I don't know just how it fits in but you should see it. It you pull the old broken part out, it should still be in the TC so no oil leaks out, and look inside you should see the gear on the out put shaft that drives the cable gear.
Cant help on the harness.
I think it would be called the speedo drive gear and the one on the cable is the driven speedo gear.
I think they can be replaced with out swapping the shaft but would need to remove the output housing.

Go to Gary's website and look up under Driveline>Transmission>Speedometer Gears Speedometer Gears - ???Gary's Garagemahal
There are part number based on truck year/model/transfer case type. I think you would have the Borg Warner (BW) 1345 or 1356 transfer case.
On the missing harness - just make your own. Go to Gary's website look up the wiring for the AC and make a harness. From the low pressure cutoff it runs to the compressor clutch A/C & Heater - ???Gary's Garagemahal

Not w/a manual trans you don't, because the DRIVE gear is a replaceable part.*

What transmission does your truck have? If it's a C6, there is no replaceable DRIVE gear, because...it's made as part of the output shaft!
If it's not a C6, the trans type, rear axle ratio and tire size are required to get the correct DRIVE & DRIVEN gears which are nylon and color coded.
*I read thru some of your old posts, in one you stated your truck has a M/T .. Please, when asking questions, list ALL the pertinent info.
