Photobucket 3rd party hosting

Hi. When I try to view images of other's posts, I get a message with a Photobucket Logo saying to "Update account to enable 3rd party hosting". Do I need to change the settings on my FTE account, or set up some kind of Photobucket account? Thanks.

Nothing you can do. The person originally posting the photos will have to make the appropriate changes in order for others to view his/her photos.

Photobucket used to allow linking to your pics with their free accounts. They recently said FU! now pay us for an upgraded membership if you want to share your pics. Most of the forums I visit are now missing photos because of this. So much lost info. I started using Imgur which is still free. I just need to work on relinking all my pics.

AFAIK, the images on photobucket are all still downloadable as a file by anyone. Just follow the URL to the *.jpg file.
Thus, it is theoretically possible for ford-trucks.com to come up with an automated process that restores the imagery used by many of these precious older threads. This is especially important in those cases where the OP is unable to restore their threads or isn't aware of the issue.
I would guess that time is of the essence since this loophole will probably get closed as soon as photobucket gets wise to it.

From what I can tell, when you find a post with a picture you want to see, there is no way to trace the removed pic to the account which contains it, unless you are a member of the site, and can click on "quote" or "edit."
What a bunch of jerks are photobucket! They have really caused a disruption to the internet with this, however, I think it's going to go over like a fart in church for them - one can only hope. I'm sure lots of other demographics are getting burned too.
The Toyotanation forum I belong to doesn't host pics, but I'm glad that this site does. I did just go back on Foureyedpride and re-uploaded the pics to my write-up on how to drill Thermactor passages to the rearmost exhaust ports on GT40P heads. Fortunately they host them, and I still had the pics in my computer.

In my opinion, the best way to access missing pics is with google image search, although if the pics aren't appropriately titled, I could see the google image search becoming less effective, as the algorithms might separate the image, and the text in the post, farther and farther apart over time.

I just found out like a week ago they deleted all my pictures from the forums. So I registered here for the small fee to post my pics. and now I'm slowly redoing my thread with all the pictures that I can. They wanted like $400 or $500 from me!

What B.S. after having the photobucket account for like 5 years! Then just all of a sudden....

Later, Shortbox4x4

I use photobreakit too. Well, they'll soon see the error of their ways or go virtually (haha) without customers.
Who do they think they are that they can pull that off with numerous other sites hosting for free ?

Here's my kludgey workaround:
Be logged-in to ford-trucks.com, access a thread with PhotoBucket broken links then Control-click (Mac) or Right-click (Windows) to get a contextual menu that enables downloading the broken image icon like this:

The downloaded image can then be renamed and viewed in any standard image viewer including your web browser - just drag the image onto an open browser window.

If you are not logged-in to ford-trucks.com, you may be shown an alternate image from PhotoBucket asking that the account be upgraded ($$$$) like this:

This message is meant for the image uploader, not us the audience. Clicking on this image will take you to the PB site where the extortion continues.

Welcome to the commercial internet where the product is YOU and YOUR words, images and videos. PB is just a bit more aggressive with this philosophy whereas Google is more sophisticated

Thinking about it some more, technology may just come around to the point where we can all have cheap servers or cloud technology or whatever, and that the responsibility of hosting image files will lie with the individual user.

Jeez... those morons at Photobucket killed off a bunch of threads all over the forums...and I mean across all make and model forums.

I'm on Tinypic.... still at no charge. Let's hope that Crap buckets new business model doesn't spread across other image hosts.

Mine isn't showing pix anywhere, but when I go to app everything is peachy. It hasn't asked me for money or anything. Time to start wiping out my Photobucket account I suppose

You always hear about computer hackers wreaking havoc somewhere with their antics. Why can't a few of those hackers get into Photobucket & ruin their plans by getting all of the photo links to work again?? That would be a good use of their skills & time.

I have been switching pics over to imgBB. It is much easier too use compared to Photobucket, just takes a couple of minutes to figure it out.
