O.k. so my "new" sport trac is already having issues. Was checking fluids and the FLORESCENT GREEN it was on Tuesday when I test drove it is now STRAWBERRY PINK!!! WTF is going on? I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow to see about remedying this issue, but I'd like any input you all may have.
it sure looks like it has oil in it.......... the " red" would make you think transmission cooler, and not motor oil problem... I assume the coolant feels "oily"?
Yep it feels oily and for comparison I pulled the tyranny dip stick, no evidence of foam, and the tranny fluid smelled like the coolant. Got it flat-bedded back to the dealer but their mechanic doesn't work weekends so it won't be till Monday noon-ish till I know what their plan is. My demand is new radiator, engine flush and tranny flush, friend of mine is telling me that the tranny will need to be torn down and clutch packs replaced.
there is a transmission cooler inside the radiator.. The trans pressure should be higher than the coolant pressure so any leak will put transmission fluid into the radiator. Hopefully none in the transmission, but changing that fluid would be a good idea....I would not tear down the trans unless it shows a problem.. Remove the trans pan and look for evidence of coolant or damage...... AS you said, with oil in the coolant, it has gone thru the motor block cooling passages. That should be drained and flushed with laundry detergent and water mix and flushed-- TWICE
Many moons ago my girl friend had a 1990 Corolla with a slugomatic. At about 40,000 miles the trans cooler sprang a leak. The first sign of a problem was the trans slipping in reverse when backing up her steep driveway. Strangely it never seemed to slip in the forward gears.
I flushed the hell out of the trans & cooling system, capped of the trans cooler and added 30 buck external trans cooler. She traded it about 90,000 miles later and never had another trans problem, she dodged a bullet with that one.
