I ordered the paint to match, as well as the "textured black" which matches the bottom part of the mirror. I used graphite color Rustoleum Peel Off with the clear gloss top coat. You can't tell it isn't painted Ford Magnetic unless you own a body shop...although if I had to do it again, I'd probably just buy the Magnetic in rattle can.
Bumping this thread to say thanks for helping swap the chrome mirror caps on my '19 platinum F350 for black textured without breaking anything and needing to remove mirrors. Caps seem not to fit quite as a tight as original but very close and I asusmebthis is to be expected when spring clips are depressed for the swap.
Well I tried to find the center clip and after messing with it for 15 minutes I gave up. If you commit to breaking the center clip you can remove the mirror cap in about a minute. I used 3 flathead screwdrivers to hold each of the 3 accessible tabs down (2 on top, one outboard) and then pull out and down, and bam, its off! Project chrome delete moving along nicely!

Thanks for info. I'm actually removing stock black caps and replacing with Chrome on my 2019 White XLT. If I don't break the clips I'll probably sell the black ones - maybe ebay unless someone here is interested

Prolly not worth messing with trying to save them. They are ~ $7 brand new from Ford. Maybe you could sell a set "used" for like $5-$7... maybe...
If you guys are just breaking the clip off the middle you faired better than I did. The whole piece attached to mirror cap broke off from the inside of mine stuck inside the tabs. Luckily the 3 clips around perimeter are more than enough to hold them on.

thanks for that feedback, I was wondering how successful I would be...
I know this is an older post, but wanted to say thank for those that shared info here! Just did my mirrors. Was super nervous on the first one. Was trying to save the bottom clip. After about 10 minutes I sacrificed it. Second mirror took about two minutes. I used 3 small flatheads and it came right off.
Thanks, I imagine that I will be needing this information someday, likely to replace a marker light. The photo with the three screwdrivers is worth a thousand words!
I thought I’d do a quick “how-to” on removing side mirror caps since I searched everywhere for info on this and found nothing. There may be a better way to do this, but this is what worked for me and took less than 10 minutes to do both sides.
There are 5 clips that hold the mirror cap on. 4 of them are around the perimeter (one on each side and two on the top), and one is in the middle.
The 4 around the perimeter can be accesses with a small flat head screwdriver when the mirror is tilted all the way down. The 5th in the middle/center will have to be sacrificed when you pop it off. (I removed my broken pieces with some needle nose plyers. You could try to fish some tool down there after you have the 4 others unclipped, but that will cut into your 10 min install time.
Once you have the sides and tops unclipped, just pry it back/off. Remove the broken clip from the middle and snap the new one in place. If you still have questions, I’ll try my best to answer.
If anyone wants some chrome caps in the Dallas area let me know. The cost is a cold six-pack, or 12-pack if you want me to help you put them on, ha.
Clip from the mirror side. Pry that down a bit to pop the cover off.
Just the one middle/bottom clip remaining. You can try to save it or just break it off.
Finished product...
Thanks!!
Do you happen to still have the chrome mirror caps? Please call or text me if you do (817)964-0456. Thanks.
