2014 Explorer Start Issues

I have a 2014 Explorer Sport and I'm having problems with cranking. On really hot days when its 90+ degrees, my explorer will make a clacking noise when cranking. When its 100 degrees, the first try on cranking will give the same noise, turn over and not start. On the second try, it will start. The odd thing is, after it does crank, it will crank normally when I try it again. After waiting a few hours, the same issue will occur again. I'm thinking this may be a starter issue. I will take a video and post later.

I honestly think I've narrowed it down to the starter, but I cant find any information anywhere (youtube, google) on how to change the starter/where tf it is at. Any help would be appreciated.

Might be a fuel pressure problem.

Try this simple test turn the key on for 2 seconds then off, repeat 5 times and then turn the key to start. If it starts right up have someone test the fuel pressure

his no start is a no crank problem, not a no fuel problem.... You have some type of electrical problem... another idea is , what if you have a corroded battery/ starter terminal somewhere.. When you first turn the key, the current zaps the corrosion and cleans up the current path for the second try ? Starter is a possibility, but I would clean all battery and starter terminals first ... check ground cable bolt, etc......... starter should be on the bottom of truck, just to the passenger side of center, back half of motor... If its a 4 x 4, you might have axle frame party hiding it.

Looks like Peppercorn is in the wind. The world may never know what the problem is if we don't hear from him again.

Sorry for the late reply. I will check the wiring for corrosion tomorrow. I've uploaded a few videos in hopes someone has had the same problem.

This video is the sound it makes when it is mid to late 80 degrees outside.

This video is the sound it makes when it is really hot around 100.

When it is below 80 degrees outside, it starts up just fine with no problems. It seems like the hotter it is outside, the louder the noise is. When it is over a 100, it will have a hard time starting the first time, then start on the next try. You might have to turn your volume all the way up to hear it, but the noise can be heard right after turning the key after the first beep. I"ve been told that it might be the starting not disengaging.

I think i hear what you are talking about on the 100 degree start, but hard to tell from here.
What i would do is put my finger on the starter relay while someone turns the key to start.
If the relay is briefly opening while it's cranking you should be able to feel it.
