I tried a search, didn't come up with anything. my Son drives a 2012 6.7, and just recently it started overheating bu only under accelleration? It runs cool while idling, and once you reach the desired speed, it cools back down, but under accelleration it overheats? We've checked the obvious (coolant ect...), but can't figure out whay it would do this only under accelleration?
Thanks
Are you leaking coolant at all? Only issue I have ever heard of is the water pump going and radiator leaking at the seams, I had to have mine replaced at 59k.
I would tell your son to invest in something like a scan gauge or something like that where he can monitor his EOT & ECT and maybe even pull or record live data. At least he could see what the EOT & ECT Temperature readings are and if they are out of spec.
Is your son's truck throwing any CEL's or does he have any other warning showing on the cluster? Does your sons truck get idled a lot? I wonder if the EGR Valve is plugged up or the EGR Cooler is plugged up with soot. I did see one EGR cooler at work that was plugged solid on one side, and they ordered a new cooler and cleaned up the EGR valve

It does use a little coolant, but always has since he started driving it in Jan. It just started overheating when accelerating 2 days ago, but isn't using any more coolant than before. No visible signs of a coolant leak.

It's a company work truck he takes home, so he's probably not gonna fork out the cash for a scanner. He was hoping to be able to diagnose it himself, and possibly repair it here at home, since it's his only means of transportation (he works on heavy equipment, and this is his service truck)

Oh jeez, if this is a company work truck, he needs to take it to the maintenance mechanic man. No point in throwing money in something that the company will pay for...I would point towards a water pump though if I had to put my money on it.

I didnt know it was a company truck. I agree with Tofan that it's best he bring it up to the company's mechanic or their fleet guy and let them know of the problems he's experiencing when using it so they can have their guy look at it or Ford dealer or shop that they trust
