New Cam installed timing help
Unless specified otherwise I would say use the facotory timing as a start and go from there, fine tuning. If your rockers are non adjustable I would say no if they are adjustable I would think no but probably wouldn't hurt if you did? What was the part number on that cam and what did you put it in/mods? I would like to know how you like the cam as I am planning on getting a XE cam as well

adjust your valves before, after, and 500 miles after you break the cam in. I'd set the timing at 10 deg. BTDC, but it will start up quickly at 6 as well. Although crazy, you might be able to adjust the timing while you're breaking the cam in, just be extremely careful you don't drop a wrench while you're doing it! Start at 10, then after a few minutes, move the distributor around until it sounds best. Make sure that you install the cam "strait up", if you try to advance it you'll end up 4 degrees more ahead than you wanted, because all the XE cams are ground with advance already in them.

I installed the XE262H it has 493 intake 500 exhaust lift. 218 intake 224 exhaust @.50 duration. Truck runs great and sounds awsome. I Cant believe the differance in sound nice rumble. Bought the cam kit that had cam, lifters, timing chain, valve springs. Also added roller rockers . Summit has free pushrods with comp cam roller rockers.

New Cam installed timing help
Runs great. But I did have a rocker nut come loose. I used comp cams adjusting kit came with spacers and lock nuts or I thought they were took out for a drive and heard a ticking pulled valve cover found a nut had started to loosen up. I guess I'll go get new lock nuts and replace all of them. Can I use the nuts that have the plastic locks or would they not hold up in the heat?

New Cam installed timing help
don't you have to degree the cam instead off putting the timing gears to factory setting? i mad a 302 with a mellings mtf1 cam and i did not adjust the timing chain to compensate for the cam changing the timing. it gives you more hp to have the cams degreed. that is why jegs sells degree wheels. i cannot find my cam card to know all of the specs of my cam. do you think i can call oreily's where i got it and give them the part number and then they could tell me the specs or at least the number to the place they ordered it from. i know the cam has 286 duration and 474 exhaust lift that is all. help i need that extra hp so i can beat the monte carlo ss down the street.lol

degreeing the cam does not change your horse power, your make what you make, what degreeing drag racing example, if you have a car thats realy strong out of the hole but nose dives on the topend, then you can retard the cam so the power band comes in later and builds more in the upper rpm range. if your power band on your cam is 2400- 6200 rpm then installing it 4 degrs adv may drop your power band 2000-5800 ball park, 2 dgres adv. is generaly nice for a street motor cuz it gives you a good crisp throtle responce provide your cam isnt to big to start with. hope this helps DW

do you think my cam is right for street if it is degreed right. right now it won't burn out, but the old motor did so it is not my rearend, but it tkes off fairly fast and if you are going like 50 and you stomp it ,it puts you back in the seat and leaves people behind when it is in 2nd gear .c6 having some trouble shifting to 3rd. but even in 3rd when i stomp it without the kickdown lever it still has power. i talk to somebody today he thinks it could be something like an rv cam 286 duration 474 exhaust lift what do you think obout my cam and it's symptoms is it not a good street cam
